Paula has over 40 years experience as a clinical practitioner. After her initial training in physiotherapy, Paula developed an interest in Oriental Healing Arts, which led to her studying shiatsu (Nature Care College) and herbal medicine under Lily Liu and Daniel Weber. As part of her Masters studies she completed an internship in acupuncture at the Red Cross Hospital , in Hangzhou in the People’s Republic of China. She has continued her study of acupuncture in Australia and Japan under Masakazu Ikeda Sensei and in recent years with Masanori Tanioka Sensei. Paula has also trained in Somatics, which addresses emotional issues as they manifest in the body. Her paper Working with Torture and Trauma Survivors: A Manual For Physiotherapists and Body Workers was published in 1997, developed from her Masters study. Paula was the founding chair of the Australian Physiotherapy Association's Acupuncture and Dry Needling Group and was a founding member of the Australian Society of Acupuncture Physiotherapists. She was the director of Siddhartha’s Intent Australia, the Australian branch of the international organisation supporting the activities of Buddhist teacher Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche up until September 2012 when she stepped down from this position.
Paula has presented at conferences, now she is focussed on passing the mantle of Integrative Acupuncture onto her senior students to continue teaching this style. For more information about the courses she runs, please visit https://acupuncturephysio.org/
